Exam Success !!

At this time of year many students, but also their families, are all too aware of the exams that are looming ( we have two revisers in our house at the moment so I speak from personal experience !)

I see a lot of students both from schools and universities who have realised that hypnotherapy can be just as vital to their revision process as the number of hours put in at their desk – so have your ever considered that hypnotherapy could super charge your revision and exam

This year I have developed a hypnotherapy ‘Preparing for your exams’ package which includes two face to face hypnotherapy sessions , recordings to listen to in between sessions to maximise the power of revision and enhance exam performance, email support and short motivational videos as a power boost that can even be watched on that walk to the exam.

Exam preparation is one of those things that is simple but not necessarily easy !

Why ? because as in so many other areas of our lives our emotions can come in and disrupt everything.

Hypnotherapy can help manage your emotions and get them to work with you rather than disrupting you – just as it is being used in preparation and performance in professional sport.

Stressful thoughts actually get in the way of learning. They set you into the ‘flight or fight’ mode and shut down the wider more imaginative problem solving thinking which comes from the frontal lobes. Wouldn’t you rather feel calm and harness the potential of this type of thinking ? Isn’t it about being focused and productive and revising ‘smart’ rather than revising ‘long’ !

There are certain tools which can really help revision. Writing and sticking to a realistic timetable is the first to tackle and hypnotherapy can really help with the motivation to do this. It is also vitally important to timetable regular breaks and treats to utilise the science of how the mind works. The important thing is to allow knowledge to be transferred from the conscious mind (short term memory) to the unconscious (long term memory) where it is then available whenever you want to retrieve it. Having a break, changing focus, doing something you enjoy not only improves the emotions but actually enhances this trickling down of vital learning.

Hypnotherapy helps you deal with all the emotions you’ll experience during the learning process and helps you stay motivated when it feels too difficult.

Visualising success is also vitally important. During hypnotherapy you can harness the power of creative visualisation to imagine being in the exam with it going really well and also visualise getting the results and feeling happy and proud. On some level this frees the mind up to let go of doubt and instead focus on the ‘how will I do this’ rather than questioning ‘can I do this’. You could be amazed at how much energy can then be freed up to focus on exam preparation and performance instead.

On the exam day itself hypnotherapy can really help you tap into calm, focused, resourceful thinking. If there is a difficult or unforeseen question instead of being thrown and it affecting you going forward it helps you deal with it in the best way you can and then let it go. No ongoing discouragement or allowing it to affect your performance with the rest of the paper, just like the thinking of the best sportsmen and women.

Developing skills to deal with lack of motivation, overwhelm and discouragement will not only be valuable during this exam period but will be great great tools to take out into everyday life. So maybe you see that hypnotherapy could help you feel better during this revision period but are still asking could it actually make a difference to the exams ?

Obviously I am not claiming that hypnotherapy will improve your IQ but what I can say is that it can super charge your revision and allow you to utilise more of your brain’s potential and that definitely can correlate with improved exam performance and results.
